Today sees the launch of Phase 1 of STAIRs (Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements), a new government initiative designed to make it easier for social housing tenants to find information about their landlord and the services they receive.
At Red Kite, we're committed to being open, transparent and accountable – and STAIRs supports this by bringing together important information in one place so it's easier for you to access, understand and use.
What is STAIRs?
STAIRs is a new set of requirements introduced by the government to improve transparency for tenants of social housing providers. The aim is to give tenants better access to information about how their homes and services are managed.
What does Phase 1 mean for our tenants?
From 1st October 2026, housing providers are required to publish information in a more consistent and accessible way. This includes information about:
How the organisation is run
Performance and service standards
Housing services
Policies and procedures
Financial and governance information.
Much of this information was already available on our website, but STAIRs makes it easier to find by bringing it together under a dedicated publication scheme.
Where can I find the information?
We've created a dedicated STAIRs page on our website where you can find information covered by the new requirements, including links to policies, performance information, and details about the services we provide.
STAIRs Phase 2
Phase 2 of STAIRs will begin on 1st April 2027. From this date, our tenants will be able to make formal requests for certain information relating to the management of their homes and housing services. We will be required to respond to valid requests within set timescales.
We're already preparing for these changes and will provide more information about how the request process works before Phase 2 goes live.
We're committed to making information easy to find and understand, and helping tenants stay informed about the services that matter to them – so ahead of Phase 2, if you want to ask us about anything to do with your home or the services we provide, you can contact us using any of the usual methods.
