Wycombe Sound, the not-for-profit radio station for High Wycombe, has been granted a licence from Ofcom to broadcast full time for the next five years.
Managing Director Chris Phillips said:
“We’re all absolutely delighted. After completing three successful pop-up broadcasts we’re looking forward to putting the service onto a permanent footing. There’s so much going on in this town, we want to share all the good news coming from our community.”
Wycombe Sound is a project we've helped, by providing them with £10,000 from our Community Fund. We use our community fund to support local initiatives that improve communities, and Wycombe Sound is a great example of a local, community-focused project.
Programme Director and presenter Philippa Sawyer said:
“It’s fantastic news, now we can put our plans into action. We’ve come a long way since 2013 and we’ve been overwhelmed with the support from listeners. We have over 70 volunteer broadcasters, technicians, and reporters from all walks of life, and we welcome new members to the team. There are lots of opportunities to get involved, both in front of and behind the mic.”
Wycombe Sound will broadcast a mix of local interest interviews and features, together with local news and phone-ins. There will be lots of great music too, plus specialist programmes and outside broadcasts. In 2015 the team moved into permanent studios in Bridge Street which also feature The Radio Kitchen, and The Blue Room, a dedicated space for live bands, choirs, and performers. The team are now raising money to buy transmission equipment and plan to be on air in the autumn.
