Managing antisocial behaviour (ASB) is an important part of the service we provide and something our communities see every day. A recent example shows how we approach this work, in partnership with other agencies, and the difference that we can then make.
We recently supported a tenant who had raised concerns about harassment and criminal damage, which they believed were linked to one individual.
Our ASB risk assessment showed a high level of risk, so we increased our support to our tenant with regular home visits, phone calls, and security improvements both in their home and across the block.
We worked with the police and referred the case to the Buckinghamshire Antisocial Behaviour Action Group (ASBAG) to raise awareness and share information about the tenant and the alleged perpetrator. Alongside this, we arranged a meeting for all our tenants in the area, with representatives from the police and Buckinghamshire Council's Community Safety Team, as the situation was also causing concern for others.
Through careful investigation, we were able to show that the alleged perpetrator was responsible for further abusive messages left after being contacted about the original concern.
The individual later signed an Acceptable Behaviour Contract (ABC), agreeing not to behave in certain ways, and was issued with a tenancy warning letter. This will be escalated if further incidents occur.
Since the incident, our tenant has regained confidence and has confirmed there have been no further issues. We are continuing to monitor the situation and we are ready to step in again if needed to support our tenant and any others affected.
