Following a recent Board meeting we are now able to share some of the decisions that have been made regarding the future of our development site in Castlefield.
At the end of 2022, our Board made the difficult decision that it was not financially viable for us to continue with our plans to build 194 flats at the site in Chairborough Road and Pettifer Way.
At the time we said that we would go away and explore further options for the site, including demolishing the current flats to help improve the look of the area and reduce the antisocial behaviour that is happening across the site.
Our Board has instructed us to complete the procurement of a contractor to demolish the eight blocks of flats at Pettifer Way and Chairborough Road along with the 25 empty flats on Longland Way. We hope that we will be in a position to start the demolition work towards the end of 2023.
We have also been asked to look at potential partners to work with on options for the future use of the site. We will be looking at whether there is still scope to build a reduced level of homes on the site and how this might be achieved. We plan to have further options to take to our Board to review in the summer.
Doing what is right for our tenants and the wider community remains our key objective and we hope to have a clearer plan after the next options are shared with our Board when they meet in the summer.
We would like to thank residents in the area for their patience as we continue to investigate the best solution for the future of this very challenging site.
