Ending a tenancy

If you're moving out, we hope you've enjoyed your time with us and will be happy in your new home.

If you'd like to end a tenancy with us, please complete this form and a member of the team will be in touch to discuss next steps:

If the tenant has died, find out how to end a tenancy following bereavement.

Returning a home

Our Home Return Standard details the expected condition the home should be returned to us in.

Our goal is to avoid recharging you, so please read our Home Return Standard carefully so you understand what you need to do in preparation for vacating your Red Kite home.

Keys

You need to return all keys and key fobs at the latest by 12 noon on the Monday following your tenancy end date to our office at:

Hampden Court
Frederick Place
High Wycombe
HP11 1JU

If keys are returned late without prior agreement, we’ll automatically extend the tenancy by one week, and you’ll have to pay rent for that week.

Please note: our offices are closed on Friday.

Changing locks

If keys are still not returned after we have extended the tenancy by one week, we will give seven days’ notice that we will change the locks, and clear the property if necessary, and you will be recharged for these costs.

Contacting us

You can contact us regarding ending or extending your tenancy by emailing tenancy.specialist@redkitehousing.org.uk or calling 01494 476100.

Extending a tenancy

If you are ending your tenancy, you may need to extend it a little beyond the date you originally thought you would be moving out - for example, if your new home isn't quite ready yet. If so, please complete our Extending Your Tenancy form:

Ending a tenancy following bereavement

We know this is a difficult time so we hope this booklet will help make the process of ending a tenancy and returning the home to us as easy as possible, and help you avoid unnecessary charges against the estate.

Please note that a tenancy agreement does not end upon death and only specific persons have the authority to end one. These individuals are known as the executor (a person already named in the will) or the administrator (this is someone who has applied to the Probate registry and obtained letters of administration to fulfil this function). A next of kin or other person without this right cannot legally end a tenancy, but they still have a vital role to play in helping Red Kite to end the tenancy by completing our death notification form.

You can also visit our support pages on coping with grief and loss.

Ending a garage rental tenancy

If you rent a garage from Red Kite and would like to end your tenancy with us, you can do so using our Garage Termination Form.
