As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of our tenants, we’re proud to be supporting Fire Door Safety Week 2024, running from 23rd to 27th September. This week is dedicated to raising awareness about the crucial role fire doors play in saving lives and protecting homes.
Fire doors are essential in containing fires within a ‘compartment’, preventing the spread of fire and smoke. This containment buys valuable time for evacuation and rescue efforts and makes it easier to control the fire. However, a fire door can't do its job if it's damaged or propped open. If you notice any issues with a fire door in one of our buildings, please report it to us immediately.
Properly functioning fire doors can make a significant difference in an emergency. Join us in our efforts to keep our homes safe by checking your fire doors and reporting any issues.
Here are some more steps you can do to ensure fire safety in your home:
- Check and test your smoke alarms regularly - If they’re still battery-operated, let us know and we'll upgrade them
- Create a fire plan that gets you out of your home in under two minutes and practice it
- If you're in a block or a scheme, know whether you're expected to stay put or evacuate. This information can be found on the fire signs around the blocks
- Never leave food cooking unattended, especially deep fat fryers and other frying equipment
- Avoid using portable and fixed space heaters, as heating equipment is the second leading cause of house fire deaths.
