Candida Dutiro, who chairs our Resident Representative Team, attended the Inside Housing Tenant & Resident Engagement (TRE) conference yesterday (Thursday 15th May) as a panel member for a session entitled 'Working with tenants to achieve warmer and safer homes'.
Candida commented:
"It was great to speak at the TRE conference alongside inspiring speakers. Sharing how the RRT is co-designing solutions with our landlord to create warmer, safer homes, particularly in tackling damp and mould and highlighting the power of collaboration. We also explored improvements in data transparency -including Equality, Diversity and Inclusion – strengthening tenant-to-contractor communication, and ensuring tenant voices reach Board level. Through these collective efforts, real change is driven for tenants."

The session Candida joined looked at ways to make home upgrades aspirational by communicating with tenants about their benefits and realities. The discussion also focused on understanding why tenants might refuse works and how to address concerns; building trust and positive relationships; improving transparency and using co-design principles to involve tenants in key decisions; and ensuring inclusive engagement, especially when making adaptations for tenants with support needs.
Now in its fourth year, the TRE conference is the UK’s leading event to help landlords and tenants achieve meaningful engagement that improves services, lives and communities. It brings together over 500 policymakers, landlords and residents to discuss innovative ways of working together to build a partnership of equals, culture, accountability and how to ensure inclusive engagement that reaches the many and not the few.
