At Red Kite, we want every tenant to feel safe, comfortable, and supported in their home. That’s why we work closely with Occupational Therapists (OTs), families, and specialist teams to make sure our homes meet individual needs.
Take a look at these two stories, highlighting several important adaptations we've made to help tenants live more safely and independently. These changes are based on professional assessments and real conversations with families about what works for them.
Creating a safer home for a family with young children
In one home, the family had children with neurodiverse conditions who were at risk of harm because of fencing, gates, and exposed pipework. We renewed the fencing and gates and boxed in pipework to make the home safer and easier to manage.
The family also needed both a bath and a level‑access shower due to disability‑related needs. After carrying out feasibility checks, we re‑designed the bathroom by combining two small rooms into one larger, more accessible space. This created enough room for a standard bath, a wet‑floor shower, a new basin, and a repositioned toilet.
Supporting an incoming tenant with significant mobility needs
At another home, the incoming tenant required several adjustments to live safely and comfortably. Working closely with an OT, we prepared the home before they moved in. This included:
- Installing a wet‑room shower
- Creating a ground‑floor bedroom
- Widening internal doors
- Adding hoist tracks
- Installing a stairlift
- Adding ramp access to the main entrance.
Every household is different, and we want our services to reflect that. By listening to tenants, working with professionals, and tailoring our approach, we can provide homes that genuinely meet people’s needs.
