Our Antisocial Behaviour Specialist Mary joined Community Specialist Tracey at the Castlefield Community Centre in High Wycombe last Wednesday (29th May) to take part in another of the Community Action Days, organised by Buckinghamshire Council and Thames Valley Police.
Community Action Days are all about local partners coming together to tackle antisocial behaviour concerns and listen to residents, so this was a great opportunity for us to hear from some of our tenants about the issues they are currently facing.
Around 80 local residents came along to the Community Centre during the course of the event, and many of them stopped at the Red Kite stall to chat to the team. Buckinghamshire Councillor Karen Bates, who represents the Booker, Cressex & Castlefield ward, also stopped by. Other organisations who took part in the event included Buckinghamshire Council Helping Hands, Thames Valley Police, Healthwatch Bucks, and Wycombe Youth Action.
The day also saw a community litter pick in surrounding residential areas, and the clearing of fly-tipped waste - there was even a bouncy castle on site for the kids to enjoy!
There were also plenty of opportunities for Mary and Tracey to network with the other groups participating - Mary said:
"A group called Saheli Unity Events was of great interest to me because of the work they are doing to interact with women who are marginalised and hard to reach. This group organises events throughout the year, and meets every Thursday at Castlefield Community Centre, where women of all faiths and backgrounds meet to learn and share their skills and stories."
The team will be out and about at future Community Action Days in our area organised by Buckinghamshire Council's Community Safety team.
