I have been a volunteer since moving into my accommodation in July 2022. I am involved in various groups and enjoy the involvement in helping to improve Red Kite for its tenants. I became a member of RRT to further help and fine tune the relationship between Red Kite and its tenants.
Social housing is an important part of the local and national community. I like to be part of Red Kite's journey as a social housing community. What we do at Red Kite helping the tenant to be heard can and will be an example to other associations.

I have lived in High Wycombe since 1968, a few years with Wycombe District Council and with Red Kite Housing since 2022.
I have watched my children and grandchildren grow up in High Wycombe and I have seen so many changes within these times.
My working background has been within the furniture business and as a payroll officer. Both roles had lots of interactions with people, which I enjoyed very much.
I decided to start volunteering for Red Kite as I can see the passion the staff have for making a big difference within the housing community and would like to be part of that positive journey to make a difference.

I’m Derek and I’ve lived in Wycombe all my life; Wooburn, Wycombe and Princes Risborough. I’m a proud Dad and I live with my wife, Julie.
I grew up in a council home with my mum and dad, and I moved out when I got married. I’ve had three jobs since I left school, starting with an apprenticeship when I was 15 as a cabinet maker. After 15 years I moved into repairs and maintenance, working alongside my brother. In 2006 I moved roles to become a site manager within a school near Loudwater, and this job was absolutely the best 16 years of my life. It brought me great joy to be working alongside the children and seeing them grow.
I’ve always been an active person, and it was important for me to continue to do something in retirement and get back involved. I realised that my experiences over the years could really add value. As a tenant volunteer I have been involved in a variety of different tenant involvement groups including as Chair of the Environmental Improvement Group and a member of the Repairs and Empty Homes group, Springboard grant funding panel and the Home Safety Group. I’ve been shadowing RRT since January 2025 and attended the National Tenant Conference in July 2025.
Health and safety has been a passion of mine from a young age and I’m keen to bring this into my volunteering work, along with my knowledge of repairs and maintenance.

I moved from north London to Thame in 1992 to start my career as a publican. Three pubs and 26 years later I decided it was time to hang up my keys and retire. I was very fortunate to be offered a home in Princes Risborough where I've now lived for the past six years.
Having always been involved in the community I was very interested in taking the opportunity to join the Volunteer team, which I've now been a part of for five years.
I've been involved with several different groups all of which shape Red Kite and the one thing I'm always impressed with is how genuine and sincere all the staff are when it comes to doing what's right for the tenants.
I've always felt the best way to make a difference is to be involved, so being a tenant volunteer hopefully I can make a difference that will benefit all tenants.

After being a tenant for many years, and raising my family in the Wooburn area, I became involved as a volunteer with Red Kite in January 2025.
For over 30 years I worked with three well-known charities, focusing on supporting carers, women and families. Recruiting, training and supporting hundreds of volunteers, and carefully matching them with families experiencing enormous obstacles. These people came from very diverse backgrounds, struggling to get through each day.
Since retiring, I have discovered the joys of art, after enrolling with a U3A Art group at Flackwell Heath, and many of my paintings have been displayed at the annual Cookham Art Exhibition.
As a volunteer I support Red Kite by helping to review updated policies, assisting with job interviews, and shadowing the RRT group meetings. Volunteering has allowed me to draw upon my varied experiences over the years and I’m keen to use my skills and experience to further help to support Red Kite tenants and the wider community.

I live in Marlow with my husband, and I am a proud mum to my two daughters and my son.
I’ve been in the aviation industry for 45 years, with experience across many different roles. I spent 21 years as the Airport Duty Manager at Heathrow Airport for an airline, and before this I worked abroad in Qatar in the airline industry. I was also a General Manager for three airlines, including KLM and Air France in West Africa.
After many years in the airline industry, I moved across to work in property, first at an estate agents in Slough. I was able to learn a great deal about the private rented sector and I worked in front-facing roles, then admin, and finally I was a credit controller for seven years in Burnham. I feel my varied skills and experiences can help me to make a difference on the RRT.
In 2023 I began my volunteering journey with Red Kite, and I am part of the Springboard panel, the interview panel and I have been observing RRT since May 2025.I am passionate about playing my part in supporting others, giving something back to society and making a difference.

I was first elected to RRT in 2022, and the reason I joined was that my work was in property management, which I thought could be useful in being involved with Red Kite and the tenants.
Along with being a member of RRT, I sit on the interview panels for staff members and help to recruit new employees. I am also on the Repairs and Empty Homes and Home Safety groups.
I think it’s important that tenants’ views are taken into account as they are the ones receiving the service. As a member of the RRT I want to ensure that our views are listened to and acted upon. I know my input can make a difference to all Red Kite tenants.

Susan Thorn
I’ve lived in Marlow all my life and my family were all born and bred here in Marlow.
Prior to having my children, I worked for the Ministry of Defence. I began as a cleaner and progressed up through many roles and ended up in property management, with roles focusing on repairs and health and safety. Since having my children I have worked in schools, looking after the school sites. Now they are a bit older, I’m keen to return to the housing sector and draw upon my previous skills and experience.
I’ve been shadowing RRT since April 2025 and I love getting involved with the group and hearing about the outcomes RRT are involved in. When we requested more info from Red Kite about the new homes in Maidenhead, it was great to hear that they took a proactive approach and RRT helped to welcome the new tenants who moved across to Red Kite from Riverside Housing Group.
I have a real passion for supporting the community and helping to make it a better place. I’m passionate about the housing sector, as it ensures people have the homes they need and plays a key role in supporting people to ensure their needs are met. I really enjoyed my time with the Ministry of Defence, but I’m particularly keen to understand and support the housing sector in my community.
