This week, Red Kite Community Housing is proud to support Fire Door Safety Week, a national campaign led by the British Woodworking Federation to raise awareness about the vital role fire doors play in keeping homes and communities safe.
Fire doors are an essential part of your building’s fire protection. They’re designed to slow the spread of fire and smoke, giving you and your neighbours more time to escape safely. But fire doors only work if they’re in good condition and used correctly.
Throughout Fire Door Safety Week, we’re sharing practical advice to help you spot and report issues with fire doors in your home. Here’s how you can get involved:
Check your fire doors: Look for a certification label, check for damage, make sure gaps and seals are intact, test the door closer, and see if the door opens and shuts properly.
Report problems: If you notice anything that doesn’t look right, let us know straight away. You can call us on 01494 476100, email contact@redkitehousing.org.uk, or send us a direct message.
Speak up: Not sure how to report an issue? Our team is here to help, just give us a call.
Safety is everyone’s responsibility
No matter what kind of home you live in, fire doors are your first line of defence. By checking your fire doors and reporting concerns, you’re helping to protect yourself, your family, and your neighbours.
Remember, even when Fire Door Safety Week wraps up, fire safety is a year-round priority at Red Kite. We offer practical tips to help you stay safe, from checking fire doors to preventing kitchen fires and planning your escape routes. Find out more about fire safety in your home.
Let’s work together to keep our homes safe - this week and every week.
