By Rosalyn Baskett, Growing Hope High Wycombe

Thanks to a grant of £10,000* from Red Kite’s Springboard fund, Growing Hope High Wycombe has been able to continue delivering vital speech and language therapy to children, young people, and their families in the local area. Over the past year, we’ve supported 40 children and young people, providing assessments, tailored therapy blocks, and practical strategies for home and school.

The impact has been remarkable — 85% of goals set were achieved. Some children worked one-to-one, while others joined small groups to build social communication skills. Parents have described the sessions as “invaluable,” “engaging,” and a “blessing” for their families, praising both the creativity and the care shown by our therapists. Children themselves have said they felt truly understood and enjoyed the sessions.

Real lives transformed

  • Kai’s story: Once unable to speak, Kai surprised everyone by using more than 10 words in context just weeks into therapy. His newfound ability to express himself has reduced frustration at home and opened up new opportunities for connection.
  • Rebecca’s story: Starting with only a few single words, Rebecca learned to use both visuals and two-word phrases to request, comment, and play socially. By the end of her sessions, she was confidently expressing herself with words and pictures.

Every milestone — whether a first word, a smile during group play, or a confident request — represents a step toward a brighter future. We’re so grateful for the support from Red Kite that makes this transformation possible for children and families across High Wycombe.

“It’s given us an invaluable set of strategies… we can’t thank Growing Hope enough.”

“It’s been a blessing to our daughter and our family.”
