This summer we teamed up with Chiltern Rangers to bring their Family Forest Ranger School to life and help the local community learn more about all the natural treasures we have around us.

Chiltern Rangers have held three events over the last few weeks: Woodland Adventurer, Nature Explorer and River Explorer. These fantastic family days out were all free to attend for anyone in the community.

The Woodland Adventurers built some brilliant shelters to hide out in for their picnic lunch, the Nature Explorers kept themselves busy in the beautiful Funges Meadow and Keep Hill Wood, and the River Explorers headed out into the River Wye with their waders to get up close to all the creatures they could find. You can find some great pictures from the days out on Chiltern Rangers’ Facebook page.

One of our tenant volunteers, Jenny and her son Tyler, went out with Chiltern Rangers to get involved in the River Explorer event on Thursday 17th August, accompanied by Simon, our Senior Digital Content Specialist, and our Communications Specialist Emma.

Jenny was one of the tenant volunteers who approved the funding, so she wanted to go along to see how the project was going, and said, “It’s great, my son Tyler and I had a wonderful time.

“I think projects like this are brilliant and give people a chance to get out of the house and do something they wouldn’t normally do – for free!”

After a morning wading in the Wye to discover the many different creatures that live in our town’s river, everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch on Kingsmead. The day ended with craft activities for the families to enjoy – clay modelling, leaf rubbing, and making toy boats to sail down the stream. It was great to see the children getting really creative and watching what their imaginations came up with.

Keep an eye on Chiltern Rangers’ eventbrite page to find out what they'll be up to next.
