Neighbourhood awards 2017

Neighbourhood Awards judging

This year’s Neighbourhood Awards have been a great success. We introduced a new nomination process, where we asked applicants to provide us with five good quality photos of their garden and tell us a bit more about the story of how their garden came to be.

We had a shortlisting day where we chose the top five gardens from each category to judge, then on 17th July, our panel of judges went out in the sunshine to look at the wonderful shortlisted gardens around the district. It was a brilliant day and so nice to speak to our customers about the love that has gone into their gardens, and see how hard they have worked to get them looking amazing. They truly improve the look and feel of our communities.

After much deliberation, the panel chose our 2017 winners who were presented with their awards and gardening vouchers at our event on 26th September, when staff, volunteers and members of the community came together at our offices to celebrate the winners of our sixth annual Neighbourhood Awards. It was a really inspiring evening and a great opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful people who have such an impact on making our communities a better place to live.

As well as presenting awards for the winning gardens (including our ever-popular Junior garden competition that schools across the district can enter), we also celebrated the nominees for the Amazing Red Kite Volunteer and Good Neighbour Awards. The awards were presented to the winners by our Vice-Chairman Charles Leigh-Dugmore and our CEO Trevor Morrow and were followed by nibbles, glasses of Bucks Fizz and lots of conversation about the awards. Watch a short video of the event below.

Remember to keep an eye out for more information on how to get involved in next year’s Neighbourhood Awards which take place in July 2018. We are really looking forward to seeing what next year brings!
