Central High Wycombe

High Wycombe CofE School

We have an area approx. 5m x 2.5m which is currently an unused area bordered by the school perimeter fence, a school outbuilding, a future nature area and a playground. We would like to convert this in to a usable space where pupils could go to, at break times if they did not want to be involved in more physical activities or ball games.

This area would be an area where less outgoing children could grow in confidence or simply relax.

The plan would be to create a themed area re-creating a peaceful beach scene or possibly a nature park.

Boards (on the longer sides) would screen the area from the public and cover the side of the outbuilding providing a canvas for a teacher/artist to paint the scenery for the themed area. Of the two remaining sides one would be fitted with a picket fence and gate to a future wildlife area. This picket fence would be in keeping with the theme i.e painted like a deck chair (colourful stripes) for a beach theme or replicate a rural fence if the theme was a Country Park. The area would be cleared and levelled before a base of gravel or pebbles put down. Furniture would be provided to fit the chosen theme again, colourful Beach themed or Rural Park themed.

The purpose would be to create not only an area for children to retreat from more physical activities but also to enable like-minded children to bond and develop friendships and confidence. School, staff would also be able to monitor this area and those that use it. This area would be available to four classes of children (120 pupils) at each break time over the coming years.

The maintenance would be undertaken by the school to enable this facility to be available for a good number of years.
