Residents informed about Chartridge House redevelopment

Last week, the future of Chartridge House was discussed with residents, giving them the opportunity to ask questions and feedback on our initial redevelopment plans.

This follows on from conversations in 2013, where it was determined that the current scheme was not viable and we'd need to explore other options for the community. 

The current building doesn't meet modern day requirements and has been very hard to let when homes have become empty. Therefore, our plans will focus on the type of affordable housing that the community needs.

There’s a possibility that our plans will include parts of St. Hughs Avenue and Windrush Drive, but a formal decision hasn't yet been made.

Consultation with the 78 residents who currently live in the wider potential development area, and Chartridge House, has now started and we’re working with our architect to draw up plans. 

Our aim is to provide high-quality, fit for purpose homes - homes that people can feel proud to live in.

Alan Keers, our Deputy Group Chief Executive, said: 

'We had a really good chat with local residents about this process and why we're doing this. For most, these plans will not have come as a surprise. This was a great opportunity to reassure them that they'll always be involved at each stage of our plans and that everyone will be spoken to individually and their needs considered. We know that Chartridge House has come to the end of its life, so we now look to the future, to try and build homes that local people really need'.
