BoommFest – Marsh and Micklefield’s very own festival of youth, created in response to the YOLO Youth Survey – is taking place throughout May and June. The festival aims to give young people the opportunity to try new experiences and show us what’s important to them. There will be opportunities to try out sports, arts, cooking and outdoor activities – from adventure training with the Sea Cadets and workshops in photography and body confidence, to sculpture, street dance and martial arts. As part of this series of Try-Out sessions, Red Kite will be running a music production workshop (Wednesday 31st May – Thursday 1st June) to learn production, songwriting and composition skills with the aim of producing a track that can be played on Wycombe Sound 106.6FM!
During the festival, Hills Café are offering internships to become a trained barista and coffee expert and you can pop in after school to enjoy their BoommFest menu, with loads of things for £1 each until 22nd June. Footprint Theatre are running acting workshops with the chance to perform in a pop-up version of Shakespeare’s The Tempest. There are also events you can just turn up to: Chiltern Rangers are running a Young Roots Conservation Village where you can help with conservation work on the River Wye, try campfire cooking, make a film or create art with Dan Wilson on 30th & 31st May. The BoommFest Study Space at Wrights Meadow Centre is also open to students looking for somewhere to study alongside their friends. The festival will end in style with a BBQ held at Funges Meadow Nature Reserve (HP11 1DL) on Wednesday 28th June.
Places are limited so book soon! BoommFest tickets cost £10 (this is a deposit); as long as you come to all of your chosen sessions, your £10 will be refunded after the festival. Check out the BoommFest website for more information.
