Supporting families during the school holidays
30 July 2015
The summer holidays can be a tough time for the family food budget. A recent survey showed that six out of ten parents with household incomes of less than £25,000 admitted they aren’t always able to afford food outside of term time.
As a social business we want to support people as much as we can. That's why this August we teamed up with OpenDoors to put on a whole range of activities, providing food to children and families who need it as well as digital training.
Our Community Champions are setting up pop-up shops to give out free food parcels and provide information and training in various skills from learning to cook healthy, nutritional food on a budget, to digital training. We want to provide our communities with more than just a food bank, so everyone who comes along will also have a chance to get involved in competitions and socialise with other people.
Other community activities we’re supporting are after school clubs, one o’clock clubs and church-based parent and toddler clubs, providing them with free food and refreshments.
