Sheltered schemes FAQs

We have a number of sheltered schemes, and appreciate that our tenants living in our schemes, and their families, may have some additional questions for us. We’ve done our best to cover these below, but if you can’t find the answer you're looking for, please just get in in touch with us.

Are the communal areas still available to tenants?

We've made the decision to close our communal lounges and our communal kitchens to help support the social distancing measures. 

All our homes have kitchens within them which will allow our tenants to prepare their own food.  However, if you have any concerns about this, or have limited facilities in your kitchen for any reason, please get in touch with us on 01474 476100 or at contact@redkitehousing.org.uk so that we can help find a solution. 

Does that mean that we won’t have any of our communal activities or the scheme surgeries?

We know how much our tenants enjoy the activities that take place at our schemes, as well as seeing our team members at the surgeries, however as the lounges will be closed it does mean that activities are currently on hold. If you want to speak to a member of the team please give us a call on 01494 476100 or by email at contact@redkitehousing.org.uk.

How long will the communal areas be closed for?

We’re not sure yet. We’re keeping an eye on the situation and will review this on a regular basis. We’ll reopen the closed areas as soon as we believe it is safe to do so. 

Will the communal laundry facility still be available?

We know that many of our tenants rely on the communal laundry facilities so we’re keeping this open and providing guidance so that only one household is using the laundry room at one time. We're also asking tenants to help us keep the room clean and clear, so not to leave dirty clothes on the floor or in the machine – and please remember to wash your hands after visiting the laundry room. 

Can we still have visitors to our home?

The government has asked everyone to restrict visits to homes of friends and family unless the visit is absolutely necessary to provide care or support to a vulnerable person. We would ask that if you require a visit for these reasons, that your visitor keeps the visit time to the absolute minimum in line with government advice. We know this sounds extreme, but the government has put these measures in place to help keep us all safe and healthy.  

Are the guest rooms still available to book?

We've stopped taking guest room bookings, and have contacted those that already had bookings. We've taken this decision as we believe it's in the best interest of everyone that lives on our schemes. This is also in line with the most recent Government advice that people should stay in their own homes.

Are you able to provide us with any additional support?

If there is anything at all you need help with, i.e. you can’t get your shopping, medication – anything at all, please give us a call and we'll try our best to support you – either ourselves, or one of the other community groups in the area.    

We’re also aiming to ring all our tenants living on one our schemes to see how you are and if there's anything we can help with. If you need something before we call, please call us.
