Planned works and maintenance FAQs

I had some planned works due to take place – what's happening with this?

At the moment we've had to pause all our programmes of planned work as these are not classed as emergencies. As soon as we're able to restart the programme, we'll be in touch to let you know.

The growing season has started – will your contractors still be carrying out the grounds maintenance?

Our contractors John O’Connor are regularly reviewing the guidance from the government. At the moment they're reviewing their services but hoping to still carry out the grounds maintenance at our sheltered schemes and larger blocks. For the moment they'll not be prioritising areas such as grass verges. In carrying out any of the grounds maintenance, they'll do so whilst maintaining social distancing. We would just ask our tenants to not approach the team whilst they're working, and if you have any questions about the service to contact us directly.

Will you carry out your usual weed killing schedule?

Yes, as of 1st April, our contractors John O’Connor will be carrying out our annual grounds’ maintenance weed killing schedule. This year they'll be taking on board the government advice and wearing full protective clothing. Please don’t be alarmed if you see them, this has nothing to do with coronavirus.

Will you still be carrying out the communal cleaning?

We're currently aiming to continue with our communal cleaning and have been in regular communications with our contractors. We believe that maintaining the cleanliness of our blocks is one of our priorities in helping to minimise the spread of the virus.

Will my windows still be cleaned?

Our window cleaning contractor has told us that following the recent Government advice, they've made the decision to pause all non-essential window cleaning and maintenance operations until further notice. This means that a window cleaning service will not be provided across Red Kite sites at this time. The advice from the Government will be reviewed regularly and we'll communicate with customers when the window cleaning service will be starting again.

Will my rubbish bins still be collected?

The Councils are working hard to keep front line waste collection and street cleansing services operating with a significantly reduced workforce. These are unprecedented times for all of us and it's having an impact on their ability to deliver collections and perform as normal. Information is being published daily. Please refer to the Council website for current announcements.

How to deal with your rubbish if you are self-isolating or have COVID-19:

If you are ill or self-isolating your personal waste needs to be:

  • double bagged
  • kept somewhere safe until 72 hours have passed then put out for collection.
Personal waste includes:
  • used tissues
  • cleaning cloths
  • wipes
  • nappies.
Do not store your waste in communal areas while you are keeping it safe.

Can we still use Red Kite play grounds?

No, all our playgrounds are now closed inline with government policy, to help avoid the spread of COVID-19. You must not enter our play grounds and your children are not allowed to play on any of the equipment until further notice.
